The World of Hyatt card and World of Hyatt Business card typically offer Bonus Points as part of their sign-up perks. In addition, you can earn bonus points for making purchases with the cards in certain spending categories.

As a World of Hyatt member, you earn 5 Base Points for every eligible $1 spent on stays, including dining, spa, and other services at participating hotel locations.
Earn 5 Base Points per $1 spent plus elite Bonus Points at participating Small Luxury Hotels of the World. You must book through Hyatt to earn points.
Smart travelers will compare booking SLH properties direct or through other channels to review potentially lower rates versus their points earnings for booking through Hyatt.
Currently, over 280 of the 520+ SLH properties are participating. More will progressively join the partnership with Hyatt. Check this map for participating properties.
There are 4 elite tiers in the World of Hyatt program: Globalist, Explorist, Discoverist, and Member.
Upon enrolling, you will be a Member. To reach the succeeding status tiers, you must meet qualifying night or Base Point thresholds.

Explorist requires 30 qualifying nights or 50,000 Base Points per calendar year. In return, you will earn 20% more Bonus Points on eligible spend.
The top tier of status with World of Hyatt is Globalist. To reach this tier, you must reach 60 qualifying nights or 100,000 Base Points per calendar year. As a Globalist, you will earn 30% Bonus Points on eligible spend.
World of Hyatt also provides a comprehensive table of benefits by status tier.

Anytime you stay the night at a Hyatt property or an MGM Resort and pay an eligible rate, you earn a tier-qualifying night. You must provide your World of Hyatt membership number when making a reservation.

Hi Jeff! In my experience, the hotel gift shops at which I’ve made purchases were owned by an outside entity and not the Hotel brand. In the rare case that the gift shop might let you charge the purchase to your room, you may earn points in that situation. Thanks for your question.

So any of the points that I get from regular spending(like grocery and gas) don’t get counted as “base point”. For example, if I spend 100k on grocery, do I not get globalist?

Hi Jay,
The points you earn will not count as “base points”, as you can only earn those during Hyatt stays. However, with the World of Hyatt card, you receive 2 elite night credits for every $5,000 you spend on the card. So if you spend $100k at the grocery store you would receive 40 elite night credits. When you add that along with the 5 elite credits you have for holding the card, you’d need just 15 more nights to reach Globalist status.

Thanks for your reply. I have a follow-up question. Do I really get 2 nights credit for $5,000 spending? I thought that $5,000 is 5000 points and I can only stay at tier 1 hotel with 5,000 points? So I think 100K points mean 20 nights or it could be 5 nights if I stay at 20,000point tier hotel. Could you let me know if I am missing anything?
One more question, so the qualified night credit, it’s something that I can earn after I stay, right? Not like something I can earn when I earn points?

You have award nights and elite night credits confused. Elite night credits are what your receive during your after your stay which count towards your elite status. For example, if you stay 3 nights in a Hyatt hotel you receive 3 elite night credits towards status qualification. With the World of Hyatt card, you can earn 2 elite night credits for every $5,000 you spend on the card, which is the equivalent to you having stayed 2 nights at a Hyatt hotel.
Given this, you could actually spend $140,000 on your World of Hyatt card and earn 56 elite night credits. Which, along with the 5 elite night credits you receive for having the card, would earn you Globalist status without needing to spend a single night in a Hyatt hotel. You would also receive at least 140,000 Hyatt points as well to use towards award nights.
